My APEX Journey — Jeremy White

Let us tell you a bit more about Jeremy… Jeremy is a 35-year-old car aficionado whose love for cars started when he was just a kid. He grew up next to another car enthusiast, his uncle Robert. Together they would watch the Nascar, Formula 1 and Indy race cars and talk at length about cars without getting tired of it!

As he grew older, his passion for cars and racing grew. By his early twenties, he has gotten the chance to drive fun cars all over different tracks across the US. He also worked for a few years for BMW, which allowed him to drive the latest M cars all over the country.

Just over five years ago, Jeremy was paralyzed. He spent six months in a hospital in Colorado rehabbing without any certainty of his future. Jeremy was told that he would have to abandon his sports cars for something more practical, but he was determined to prove them wrong. Every time he looks back at one of his adaptive sports cars, he sees so much more than just a vehicle. In Jeremy’s words: 

“I am very lucky to not only be alive but also able to still live my dream and help motivate others in a similar situation to chase theirs.”

A few weeks ago, Jeremy contacted us, excited to talk about his APEX C journey and how much he loves his experience with Motion Composites. Here is his interview:

MOTION COMPOSITES: PLEASE, SHARE WITH US HOW MOTION COMPOSITES HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE.

Jeremy White: I have been using a wheelchair since my injury in 2017. I was initially fitted with another wheelchair. I thought it was okay at first, but it definitely could be better. I learned about Motion Composites through a physical therapist who recommended the carbon fiber wheelchairs. They were a lighter option than the chair I currently used, and I knew it would be a better fit for me and my cars. Once I received my APEX Carbon, I immediately felt the difference. My legs sat better than in my previous chair. It was super lightweight, and I felt faster and more comfortable in this new chair. I could finally get the chair into my car with ease (with my old chair, it was a struggle to get my chair in the car mainly because of the weight).

MC: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR FAVORITE FEATURE OF YOUR APEX?

JW: My two favorite things about the APEX C would have to be how lightweight it is and its aesthetics. Its lightness gives me the confidence to know that I can always fit my chair in places. The anxiety that I used to get with my old chair is gone.

Also, I get a lot of compliments on the chair about the exposed carbon fiber and the red handrims; it definitely stands out!

MC: DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH MOTION COMPOSITES?

JW: I would like to add that the APEX C is not only easy for me to use but also easy for others in terms of breaking it down and putting it back together. In three easy steps, I can explain how to break it down to the person I,m with, and they’ll instinctively know how to put it back together. I am no longer worried about my chair in someone else’s hands. I’ve seen firsthand how hard some chairs can be to use and how one wrong step could lead to a bent part. 

In my life, I try to be an advocate and take away the stigmas around being in a wheelchair. How being disabled doesn’t mean you live a “before and after” lifestyle. I strive to have my “before” part of my “after”… The APEX C has given me so much confidence as I continue to build my platform. I want to thank Motion Composites so much for being a part of this journey!
