Our history

For ten years now, Motion Composites has redefined people’s perception of wheelchairs. Young in years, but rich in experience, the company has grown quickly right from the start. Motion Composites unveiled the HELIO C1, its first lightweight carbon fiber wheelchair and the lightest adjustable folding chair on the market.

Motion Composites was presented with a Génie Innovation Award by the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

Motion Composites’ HELIO C1 wheelchair was voted most innovative product by attendees of the 2010 Canadian Seating and Mobility Conference (CSMC).

Motion Composites unveiled its carbon fiber HELIO Kids model.

Motion Composites unveiled the HELIO A7, the world’s most lightweight adjustable folding aluminum wheelchair.

Motion Composites unveiled VELOCE, the world’s lightest folding wheelchair. VELOCE is the first and only folding wheelchair to be considered a rigid wheelchair by Ontario’s Assistive Devices Program.

Motion Composites’ VELOCE wheelchair was voted most innovative product by attendees of the 2013 Canadian Seating and Mobility Conference (CSMC).

Motion Composites unveiled a second-generation carbon fiber wheelchair, the HELIO C2. Having reduced its weight by an impressive 2.2 kg (5 lb.) compared to the HELIO C1, this wheelchair weighs at least 4 kg (9 lb.) less than the next heaviest wheelchair on the market.

Motion Composites ranked 26th out of the top 500 fastest-growing companies in Canada, according to the Profit 500 List for 2014, with an impressive 2,241% growth since 2008.

Motion Composites’ heavy-duty Helio C2 HD wheelchair was voted most innovative product by attendees of the 2014 Canadian Seating and Mobility Conference (CSMC).

Motion Composites unveiled its HELIO C2 HD wheelchair, the world’s lightest folding heavy-duty wheelchair, with a weight capacity of 159 kg (350 lb.). This model only weighs 176 g (6 oz.) more than the standard HELIO C2.

The lightest folding standard wheelchair available. The MOVE also boasts two ergonomic rear wheel positions making it the most propulsion efficient standard wheelchair yet and all in a durable and affordable package.

Motion Composites’ APEX wheelchair was voted most innovative product by attendees of the 2016 Canadian Seating and Mobility Conference (CSMC).

Motion Composites received the New Product Award for APEX. With a transport weight of just 4.2 kg (9.2 lb.), APEX is the lightest adjustable rigid wheelchair in its class.

Motion Composites’ adjustable rigid APEX wheelchair, the lightest in its class, won a 2017 Red Dot Design Award for Product Design. This is the world’s most prestigious label recognizing outstanding design quality.
